Background: This scholarship will recognize excellence in teaching for a Master of Education student at UPEI in honour of Menadora MacDonald, the beloved mother and grandmother of 15 children (nine girls and six boys) with 13 still living. She is also adored and admired by her 35 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. Her family lived by her belief in the importance of obtaining a solid education and often heard her stating that it is not difficult to carry a certificate of your education in your pocket. Menadora MacDonald has been a life-long valued teacher in the PEI education system. She taught elementary students for over 30 years, and was Principal at West Royalty Elementary School for 18 years. Menadora always believed in students and had great empathy and understanding for the challenges many of them faced while working toward reaching their dreams. This award is being established by her daughter Dr. Donna Murnaghan on behalf of her large family in celebration of Menadora's 93rd birthday and to honour her for being such a strong role-model as an advocate for the importance of education and continued learning.
