Frost Week begins in two days and by golly, SOMEONE is getting a pie in the
face!
The Student Union is requesting that faculty and staff come out and express
their (presumed) distaste for students by throwing a pie in the face of a
member of their Student Union Council on Thursday, January 31 at 11:00 am,
and paying for it with cash!
So far on the docket we have: Kate VanGerven, Jonathan Millington, Chelsea
Merry, Danielle MacDonald, Travis Gordon, Anastasia Smallwood, Logan
MacMillan, Matthew Rice, Kylie Ford, Emiley MacKinnon, and more to come!
Bids may be placed from 10:00 am- 2:00 pm in the WA Murphy Student Centre Tuesday, January 29,
Wednesday, January 30, and Thursday, January 31!

UPEI鈥檚 synchronized swimming team will host their 鈥淪ync or Swim鈥 fundraiser
on Wednesday, January 30, 8鈥9 pm at the CARI complex. The team will
showcase various routines as well as a highlight routine in which there are displays
of incredible lifts and jumps. The UPEI men鈥檚 rugby club will perform their
very own routine, which is sure to be entertaining.
鈥淪ync or Swim鈥 tickets can be purchased for $10 or $8 (students), or $15
VIP (which includes on-deck seating and a special screening of the routines
under water). Tickets are available from any UPEI synchro team member, or at
the W.A. Murphy Student Centre on January 29 and 30, 11:30 am鈥2:00 pm. All
funds raised from the event will help cover training and travel costs.

Dr. Adrian Culf, Atlantic Cancer Research Institute, will present a seminar on Wednesday, January 30 at 12:30 pm.
Dr. Culf鈥檚 presentation is entitled 鈥淚soenzyme-selective histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitors: HDAC6 in human breast and prostate cancer cell lines.鈥
The seminar will be held in Room 128 in the KC Irving Chemistry Centre.
On Tuesday, January 29 at 7:30 pm the Music Department Recital Series
presents Canadian pianist Julien LeBlanc. Renowned for his great musical
sensibility and his talent as a communicator, Julien will present a solo
recital featuring the works of Scarlatti, Schumann, and Ravel.
Julien is a well-sought-after soloist, chamber player, and accompanist.
Based in Montreal, he tours the country extensively allowing audiences from
coast to coast to enjoy his performances with different formations as well
as in solo recitals.
The performance will take place in Dr. Steel Recitall Hall. Tickets are
available at the door for $15 and $10 (students and seniors).

University 100 Vern Smitheram and Andy Robb Leadership Development
Speakers Series Winter 2013, on the theme of "Leadership, A Call to
Service" on Tuesday, January 29, 1:00鈥2:15 pm in Don and Marion
McDougall Hall, Room 328.
An informal discussion period will take place following the talk which is free.

Services, and Webster Academic staff will discuss the resources available
for students through the Department of Student Affairs. This is an
opportunity to find out what academic services are available for you and
your students!
The departments of Integrated Communications and Human Resources are
pleased to offer an introductory course in Microsoft Excel on February
13, from 12:30 pm to 2 pm (location TBD) for those who want to learn
the basics of using this time-saving software. Many times, using new
software can be a little intimidating, but with a bit of understanding
and a level of comfort, one can quickly see the benefit that software
can offer.
This session will cover the following Excel attributes:
The fundamentals of Excel
Opening, saving and moving around in workbooks
Formatting for look and feel
Working with simple data
Copy/cutting and pasting
Inserting rows and columns
Formula basics including sum, average, etc.
Using common Excel functions
Come also to have your Excel questions answered as to how this
powerful software can make your life easier. This session will be led
by the staff from Integrated Communications, so come for some
learning, laughs, and socializing with fellow staff. Session numbers
will be capped at 12 based on workstation availability in the lab.
This will be a hands-on experience!

Neuromuscular neurologist and author of The Spiritual Doorway in the
Brain: A Neurologist鈥檚 Search for the God Experience, Dr. Kevin Nelson
will be on campus on January 28 and will present 鈥淚n the Borderlands of
consciousness: spirituality arising from the brain in crisis鈥 from 7鈥9 pm
in AVC鈥檚 Lecture Theatre A.
Dr. Nelson is the director of medical affairs, assistant dean for clinical affairs,
and professor of neurology at the University of Kentucky located in
Lexington. Nelson has a PEI connection as he鈥檚 married to Rustico native,
Dr. Anne Steele (nee Gallant). Steele, who is a child psychiatrist, is also
a 小黄书视频 alumna. Nelson and Steele enjoy vacationing at their summer cottage
in Cymbria, PEI.
Nelson will discuss the remarkable phenomena of near-death experiences and
life-altering events, and how the brain is working during these moments.
The lecture is free and all are welcome to attend. This lecture is hosted
by the faculties of arts and science with assistance from the
departments of psychology, philosophy, and religious studies.
