Campus Notices

We have a variety of outdoor games to sign out for use on campus with your colleagues. Games include bocce, croquet, ladderball, washers, and yard-zee. You are encouraged to sign out items for more than one day.

Come out and try pickleball and/or spikeball with fellow UPEI staff and faculty every Thursday at noon for the summer (weather permitting) near the new residence.

You do not have to register online. To sign out equipment, contact Angela Marchbank at amarchbank@upei.ca

UPEI鈥檚 Experiential Education department is hosting  as part of the 2024 PEI Pride Festival on Wednesday, July 17, at The Guild from 3-5 pm. This event is open to all 2SLGBTQ+ folks and their allies, at any career stage or from any industry. No registration is required; simply drop in and make some new connections!

Summer is here on PEI, which means higher temperatures and humidex, potential UV index warnings, and an increased risk of developing heat-related illness. 

Whether you're working indoors or outdoors, here are some tips to help prevent heat-related illness:

  • Take regular rest breaks in the shade or an air-conditioned space when possible
  • Do demanding physical work before 11 am and after 3 pm
  • Limit sun exposure, especially when the UV factor is high
  • Use sunscreen and lip balm with a minimum 30 sun protection factor (SPF)
  • Drink plenty of water before you feel thirsty
  • Cover up with light-coloured, loose-fitting clothing made of breathable fabric
  • Wear a wide-brimmed hat and UV protective eyewear

Dr. Mason Stothart, a candidate for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Biology, will give a public research presentation titled 鈥淪ea, Sand, and Cities: An Ecosystem Metagenomic Approach to One Health in the Maritimes."

The presentation will take place on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. in Duffy Science Centre, Room 204.

Health Data Research Network (HDRN) Canada will host a free webinar for researchers on July 17 at 2 pm AST for researchers who would like to better understand how to navigate multi-regional data access processes.

UPEI's Secure Island Data Repository (SIDR) is a research data repository that will allow researchers and graduate students to access PEI鈥檚 administrative health data for research purposes in a secure and controlled environment. 

Through SIDR鈥檚 partnership with Health Data Research Network Canada (HDRN Canada), local researchers who are interested in accessing administrative health data from multiple regions can do so via the HDRN Canada Data Access Support Hub (DASH).

One of the signature events of the PEI Pride Festival, which takes place from July 12 to 21, is the Pride Parade, when individuals, families, friend groups, and organizations join a colourful line-up to walk through the streets of Charlottetown. Thanks to the leadership of the UPEI Student Union, and support from UPEI Alumni and UPEI Communications, UPEI is proud to participate in the 30th annual parade.

The  will take place on Saturday, July 20, and all students, staff, faculty, and alumni are invited to join alongside the Panther Patrol van! Participants are asked to meet at 11:00 am on parade day in the parking lot behind the provincial government buildings on Terry Fox Drive, Charlottetown. The parade begins at 12:00 pm and ends at approximately 1:00 pm.

UPEI participants are asked to wear bright rainbow colours and be ready to wave and cheer! As an option, 小黄书视频 Pride t-shirts can be purchased from the UPEI Bookstore, or UPEI shirts and hats can be dressed up with a little Pride colour. 

Those who are unable to make it to the parade can express support for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in other ways such as wearing bright rainbow colours during the PEI Pride Festival.

The deadline for Animal Care Protocol submissions (new, renewal, or amendment) is Friday, August 2, 2024, for the August meeting of the Animal Care Committee (ACC). 

Please note that as of June 1, 2020, all animal user protocols must be submitted through UPEI's Researcher Portal at https://upei.researchservicesoffice.com/Romeo.Researcher/

For new protocols, select 鈥榓pplications鈥 and for renewal or amendment protocols select 鈥榚vents.鈥

To view any UPEI ACC Standard Operating Procedures and Codes of Practice, they can be accessed through my小黄书视频 at . 

Those protocols received after the deadline will be reviewed the following month. The Committee requires at least one month for processing applications.
