UPEI dean receives award from Saskatchewan College of Family Physicians

Dr. Preston Smith, dean of the UPEI Joint Medical Doctor program, has been awarded the Dr. Michael Krochak Award for Contributions to Family Medicine by the Saskatchewan College of Family Physicians.

This award is intended to recognize individuals (physician or non-physician) or groups, college members and non-members, who have significantly contributed to family medicine in Saskatchewan through clinical research, education, or administrative activities.

鈥淚 want to express my sincere gratitude to the SCFP for the Dr. Michael Krochak Award for Contributions to Family Medicine in the Province of Saskatchewan,鈥 said Dr. Smith. 鈥淚 am very honoured by this award. My time as dean of the College of Medicine (COM) at the University of Saskatchewan will always be some of the best years of my career, and the opportunity to lead the COM and see it flourish as we supported the talent, expertise and energy that was always present was a true privilege.鈥

Saskatchewan鈥檚 provincial chapter of the College of Family Physicians (SCFP) represents over 1,400 family physician members, while the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) represents more than 43,000 members nationwide. The CFPC is the professional organization responsible for establishing standards for the training and certification of family physicians and accrediting postgraduate family medicine training in Canada鈥檚 17 medical schools. The College provides quality services, supports family medicine teaching and research, and advocates on behalf of family physicians and the specialty of family medicine.
