UPEI Summer Spanish Course in Salamanca
Why?
The optimal situation for language learning is total immersion. Living in the city of Salamanca, Spain, provides this wonderful opportunity.
Where?
The University of Salamanca is one of the oldest and most prestigious in Europe. Founded in 1218, the University is the oldest in Spain, and is located in the historical city of Salamanca, in the heart of Old Castle. Miguel de Unamuno, famous Spanish philosopher and writer, rector of the University, named Salamanca 鈥淭he Students鈥 City.鈥
The course
Spanish 203, offering 60+ contact hours per week, plus cultural activities daily. Students are also encouraged to participate in the many and varied activities taking place in the University community after class hours, such as theatre groups, debate clubs, Spanish dance and choir workshops, and the cinematheque. Local excursions and sightseeing tours are organized for the weekends.
The Cost
- Tuition Fees: The course is worth two UPEI credits and the cost is the total of two credits.
- Accomodation (room and three meals per day): $680.00
- Return Airfare from Charlottetown to Madrid: $1,000.00-$1,500.00
- Non-refundable registration fee: $100.00
Travel
Students make their own travel arrangements. The group of students participating in the program will leave together from Canada. The group may also arrange to rendezvous at other airports on the way to Spain, such as Pearson (Toronto), Heathrow (London), or Barajas (Madrid). Students are encouraged, but not obliged, to travel to Spain with the group.
Residence
Students attend classes at the University of Salamanca and have access to all University facilities, including libraries and computer and language labs. Students will stay with Spanish families. The four-week immersion format is designed to enable students to gain in-depth knowledge of the language, culture, and people of Spain.
Prerequisites
UPEI Spanish 102 or equivalent. Students from other universities are welcome to take the course.
