Dr. Xiuquan (Xander) Wang, associate professor and director of the Climate Smart Lab at UPEI’s Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation, is the recipient of the E. Whitman Wright Award for Excellence in Information Technology in Civil Engineering from the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE). The award was presented during the CSCE’s annual conference in Moncton, New Brunswick, May 24–27, 2023.

Members of the public learned more about the new UPEI Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation during an event at St. Peter’s Bay on Friday, February 14.

The Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Veterans Affairs and MP for Cardigan; the Honourable Dennis King, Premier of Prince Edward Island; Dr. Alaa Abd-El-Aziz, С»ÆÊéÊÓƵ President and Vice-Chancellor; and Dr. Adam Fenech, Associate Dean of the UPEI School of Climate Change and Adaptation, invite the public to a presentation about the future building plans for UPEI’s Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation. 

The public is invited to a public meeting and presentation about the indicators of climate change for Prince Edward Island. 

The С»ÆÊéÊÓƵ will host Dr. Francisco Dallmeier, director of the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute’s Center for Conservation and Sustainability, when he visits Prince Edward Island next week to give a talk on Climate Change Impacts on Biodiversity.  

The UPEI 50^th Anniversary Alumni Speakers Series and the UPEI Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering are pleased to present a presentation by Jim Carter (Dip. Eng ’71, LLD ’08), retired CEO of Syncrude Canada Ltd.

The Engineers Without Borders UPEI chapter is hosting a Sustainable Future Conference on October 26.

A research paper from Dr. Xander Wang proposes a new mathematical model to provide real-time prediction of urban flooding caused by heavy rainfall in a changing climate. The paper is published in the latest issue of . Dr. Wang is an assistant professor in the UPEI School of Climate Change and Adaptation.

Investments in climate change research, scientific innovation and post-secondary education are essential for providing increased access to higher learning for Canadians, and to develop meaningful collaboration with communities, industry leaders, researchers and regional governments.

The Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Veterans Affairs, on behalf of the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, along with the Honourable Brad Trivers, PEI’s Minister of Environment, Water and Climate Change, today announced an innovative climate change adaptation project led by the С»ÆÊéÊÓƵ.
